My Top 5 Ways of Organising Your Bathroom

Bathrooms are often the most cluttered rooms in the house. With a mix of toiletries, towels, cleaning supplies, and personal items, it can be hard to keep this space looking neat, let alone feeling calm and spa-like. I believe in using smart, simple solutions that transform a bathroom from chaotic to serene. Here are my top five tips for creating a tidy, functional, and relaxing bathroom, using items that make organising easy and effortless.

1. The Free-Standing Shelving

“Open shelves provide an instant overview of the products you have and those you are running low on, as well as giving you quick access to the items that you use frequently. Keep daily-use items, such as soap and toothbrushes, at hand height and stack spare towels lower down, for a pleasing display.”

One of my favourite additions to a bathroom, free-standing shelves give you visibility and accessibility. In my experience, these shelves are perfect for displaying essentials within reach, so you’re not digging through cabinets to find your face wash or a fresh towel. When I say “display,” I don’t mean leaving products scattered—group similar items together in attractive containers or baskets to keep it visually tidy.

A free-standing shelving unit lets you place daily items like toothbrushes and soaps at a practical height, while things you don’t need as often, like extra towels, can be stored on lower shelves. By organising this way, you’re not only creating a functional layout but also making the bathroom feel more like a relaxing, spa-inspired space.

2. The Over-Door Rack

“If surface space is limited in your bathroom, use the space on the back of the door. With four sturdy, wire shelves to house everything from shower caps and facecloths to perfumes and hairbrushes, it’s perfect for storing everyday essentials.”

In smaller bathrooms or those with minimal counter space, I always recommend using the back of the door. Over-door racks are an absolute game-changer for space-saving. These racks can house a surprising amount of products, from shower caps to hair products, making them easily accessible but out of the way.

An over-door rack takes advantage of otherwise unused space, helping you free up room around the sink and countertop. This can be especially helpful for those with large families or anyone who shares a bathroom. It’s like having an extra set of shelves without the need for any floor space, which can really help with keeping the bathroom from feeling cramped.

3. The In-Drawer Organisers

“Clutter-free counter tops will help your bathroom to feel calm and clean. Store make-up and any little bits and bobs out of sight in clear, lidded boxes inside your drawers. With everything in its place, you’ll spend less time looking for what you need.”

If there’s one tip I can’t emphasise enough, it’s this: keep your countertops clear. A clean counter makes a world of difference in making your bathroom feel less chaotic. I recommend using in-drawer organisers, which are especially helpful for managing small items like cosmetics, hair accessories, or travel-sized products.

With in-drawer organisers, everything has its designated spot, so you’re not left rummaging around. Look for clear, lidded boxes that keep things visible and dust-free. This is a fantastic way to ensure that only the items you actually use regularly are within reach, keeping that serene look on the counter while maintaining functional storage.

4. The Versatile Wall Cabinet

“In a bijou en suite or cloakroom, these shallow wall cabinets are great for keeping toilet rolls and cleaning products hidden away. Make the most of a tricky nook, or open space over the sink, and hang a few together.”

Wall cabinets are ideal for any bathroom, particularly if you’re working with a tight space. Shallow wall cabinets can fit in compact areas, like above the toilet or sink, without making the room feel closed in. They’re perfect for storing things you don’t need every day, like extra rolls of toilet paper, hand towels, or cleaning supplies.

For a cohesive look, consider hanging a set of matching cabinets. It not only helps with storage but also gives a finished, polished look to the bathroom. I love these cabinets because they keep clutter out of sight, giving you a streamlined and more minimalist feel, which is ideal for a room that should be all about relaxation.

5. The Trolley

“Keep your necessities on a sleek trolley that you can easily wheel between the bath and shower so you don’t need to double up on anything.”

A trolley is one of the most versatile pieces you can add to your bathroom. It’s especially helpful in bathrooms with shared storage or those lacking built-in shelving. With wheels, you can easily move it around as needed, keeping your essentials close by during your shower or bath, and tucking it away when you’re finished.

Trolleys are great for holding items like shampoo, conditioner, and skincare products, so you’re not juggling bottles or cluttering the edge of the bath. I often suggest a stylish trolley with a modern, minimalist look, as it adds to the overall aesthetic while keeping everything organised. It’s a fantastic solution for anyone looking to save on storage space without sacrificing convenience.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I make my bathroom feel less cluttered?

Start by limiting the number of items on display. Use in-drawer organisers for small items, wall cabinets for extras, and clear out any old or expired products. Only keep what you use regularly within reach.

How can I keep my bathroom organised on a budget?

Use affordable solutions like over-door racks and trolleys. You don’t have to invest in high-end pieces; even basic shelves or plastic organisers can make a big difference in maintaining order.

What’s the best way to store toiletries if I don’t have much cabinet space?

Go for multi-functional storage solutions like free-standing shelves or an over-door rack. These options maximise vertical space and keep items accessible without needing a cabinet.

How can I maintain a ‘spa-like’ feel in my bathroom?

Keep surfaces as clear as possible, choose storage that blends into your decor, and use a consistent colour palette. Remember, a few strategically placed plants can add a calm, natural touch as well.
